They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In Cabarrus County, local eateries take that to heart. So, whether you’re looking for a hearty classic or a modern spin on a traditional dish, you can’t lose by stopping into one of these tasty local restaurants for breakfast.
Union Street Cafe
This new spot in historic Downtown Concord is serving up scratch-made breakfast and brunch dishes you don’t want to miss. Celebrating their Grand Opening at the end of October 2024, Chef David Sargent and the Union Street Cafe team offer diners a menu filled with mouthwatering meals such as the Strawberry Crunch Cakes and Breakfast Burrito alongside cocktails that pair perfectly with brunch.
Wake Up & Eat Family Restaurant
With its mimosa menu of bubbly beverages topped with pineapple, orange, or cranberry juices, Wake Up & Eat borders into brunch territory, but its food skews traditional breakfast — and that’s a good thing. There are the egg-centric breakfast platters with protein sides (corned beef hash, sausage, bacon, ham), pancakes studded with chocolate chips or blueberries, build-your-own omelets, and enormous Belgian waffles.
Mike’s Deli & Bagels
It’s all about the mighty bagel at Mike’s Deli & Bagel. Bagels and lox. Bagels slathered with a schmear of cream cheese in flavors like jalapeño or walnut-raisin. Bagels sandwiching a tower of eggs, bacon and cheese. Toasted bagels with melted butter. No matter how you enjoy your bagel, you’ll find it on the menu at Mike’s. And, thanks to owner Michael Mishkin’s New York upbringing — he was born and bred in Queens — the texture of the bagels is perfection: thick but not dense, rich but not chewy. Save room for an apple turnover to go.
Sunflour Baking Company
For those who prefer a frothy latte and a decadent pastry for their morning meal, there’s Sunflour Baking Company. This bakery has locations throughout the Charlotte area and the Harrisburg shop stocks its pastry cases with an assortment of goodies: moist muffins, sourdough English muffins and its famous croissants, a perfectly chewy-flaky delight comprising nearly 170 layers of butter and dough. Pair it with an espresso made with beans from local Charlotte roaster Pure Intentions Coffee.
The Sweet Spot
You have your work cut out for you when it comes to deciding what to order at The Sweet Spot. Open for breakfast every day of the week, The Sweet Spot’s menu features a dizzying array of options: sweet and savory crepes, breakfast bowls, off-the-griddle classics and Southern staples like country fried steak and biscuits and gravy. Even the list of breakfast sandwiches tops out at no less than half a dozen choices.
Village Corner Comfort Kitchen & Bar
Like its name suggests, Village Corner Comfort Kitchen & Bar is a friendly, neighborhood joint where locals gather for chef-driven, scratch-made, Southern-inspired fare. Case in point: Biscuit Bennys, a menu of different buttermilk biscuit-based dishes, most with a savory white pepper gravy, some with tender pulled pork, all with a sunny-side-up egg. Decked out with a large “Welcome Friends” mural, even the interior of the space radiates warmth and hospitality.
